After six months of brutal fighting and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis, multiple Israeli and western commentators have argued that Hamas is winning the war and making military history in the process.
[…]
Hamas had survived “the IDF onslaught for longer than any war Israel has ever fought,” and in “doing so, they have thoroughly dented Israel’s much vaunted deterrent status. In brief, and with daunting potential long-term consequences for Israel, the IDF no longer looks invincible.”
Hamas has blocked a potential normalization deal between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which looked inevitable before the war began on 7 October, and put the Palestinian issue “back squarely on the international map” after years of the Palestinian Authority (PA) failing to do so.
A final victory for Hamas, Phillip notes, is the “head-spinning speed of Israel’s post-October 7 delegitimization in the eyes of many in the world.”

Following the withdrawal of the 98th Division from the southern Gaza city, Harel noted that the Israeli army’s “two goals were the capture of top Hamas officials in Gaza and the rescue of the Israeli captives currently held by the Palestinian Resistance in Gaza.”
“The public should be told the truth: The enormous death and destruction the IDF is leaving behind in Gaza, alongside quite a few losses on our side, aren’t currently bringing us any closer to achieving the war’s goals,” he concluded.

“Israel’s failure is not based on presenting the goals of the war – which were fully supported by all Western countries. The failure lies entirely in the execution,” Eyal wrote, adding that “war is not won just by killing. A complementary political act is needed.”
The first failure, according to the report, was “the civilian suffering in Gaza.”
“Those who want to overthrow the rule of Hamas in Gaza do not conduct a Roman-style revenge campaign, carry out a protective wall or retaliatory action as if it were the 1950s.”
[…]
Eyal also noted that Israel had become isolated in the international community and that even its allies in Washington and Brussels were beginning to turn against it.
“Not only has [Israel] lost support in most of the West, and is very close to an arms embargo from Europe, even among its great ally, the tectonic plates are in motion.”
The “is this a pigeon” meme with the speaker labeled “radical social justice spaces” asking, “Is this accountability?”
The butterfly is covered up with a large thought bubble that says, “Completely obliterating a trans woman’s entire support network leaving her a traumatized bundle of nerves who feels like she’ll never have any community because you’ve convinced her she’s a monster.”

The U.S. will use its veto power against a Palestinian bid to be recognized as a member state of the United Nations during a vote at the Security Council expected to take place Thursday evening.
Vedant Patel, principal deputy spokesperson for the State Department, described as premature an effort by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to gain member status at the U.N.
He said there was not unanimity among the Security Council’s 15 members that the Palestinian Authority had met the criteria for membership, with unresolved questions over the governance of the Gaza Strip, where Israel is in a war to defeat and eliminate the controlling power, Hamas.
“And for that reason, the United States is voting no on this proposed Security Council resolution,” Patel said.
United States vetoes Security Council resolution recommending observer State of Palestine be granted full United Nations membership
Result of the vote:
IN FAVOR: 12 AGAINST: 1 ABSTAIN: 2
In a vote of 12 in favour to one against, with two abstentions, the Council did not adopt a draft resolution that would have recommended the General Assembly to hold a vote with the broader UN membership to allow Palestine to join as a full UN Member State.
The draft resolution is among the shortest in the Council’s history: “The Security Council, having examined the application of the State of Palestine for admission to the United Nations (S/2011/592), recommends to the General Assembly that the State of Palestine be admitted to membership in the United Nations.”
For a draft resolution to pass, the Council must have at least nine members in favour and none of its permanent members – China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States – using their veto power.
the stuff going on at columbia campus rn is genuinely incredible
despite mass arrests by NYPD and several students (including rep ilhan omar’s daughter, isra hirsi) being suspended for their participation and having their university identification deactivated, the gaza solidarity encampment is still going strong well into its second day. def recommend following independent reporter talia jane who is taking part and providing live updates. do people even know the extent of sanctions on the iranian people? my mom’s family can’t afford fruit anymore. it’s a state of psychological warfare; literally nobody living there has any sort of hope for the future. added sanctions from the EU are going to destroy the lives of 87 million innocent people
The poll found that most Americans 73% say they don’t judge people who wear masks in public. But 14% of those surveyed said that they “think” less of people who wear a mask in public.
As in most cases, about 1 in 5 people are assholes.
these weak bitches who wouldn’t smash the risen characters from In The Flesh, do you even know them or are you simply too squeamish for their undead pallor?
